Shanghai obtained 48,215 Chinese patents in 2010, 6,867 of which are inventions, up 38.1% and 14.5% respectively over 2009, according to a statistics published by SIPO recently. If calculated on the permanent population of 23 million, the number of granted patent per 1 million population in Shanghai stood at 299, which over-fulfilled the tasks of Shanghai IP Strategy Outline (2004-2010) published by Shanghai government in 2004.
Statistics show that Shanghai filed a record high of 71,196 patent applications in 2010, 26,165 of which are inventions, up 14.4% and 18.9% respectively over 2009. The invention accounts for 37% of the total patent applications.
