Authorities in this eastern province plan to develop 10 strategic hi-tech industries between 2010 and 2012 to position the province for future industrial competition.
The 10 industries include electronic information, new materials, biomedicine, computer-controlled machines and equipment, high-speed trains and new energy cars, clean energy, shipbuilding, environmental protection and modern service.
The provincial government has earmarked 2 billion yuan to support local hi-tech businesses in developing innovation.
The hi-tech sector generated 2.36 trillion yuan in industrial output in 2009, about 33 percent of Shandong's total economy, and won more than 2,300 provincial-level awards and 33 national prizes for technological innovation.
