Shanghai's 56 key cutting-edge science and technology projects filed 1,291 patent applications, 74% of which were for invention; obtained 359 patents, 228 of which were invention.  In addition, the projects also registered 160 copyrights and 102 trademarks. 

Since July 2004, Shanghai has launched two groups of 56 projects to make the city prosper by advanced technologies, concentrating on electrical information, key equipments, biomedicine, new material, new energy, aeronautics/astronautics and public platform.  With the assemble of 4,000 high-end talents, 3.15 billion yuan dedicated fund and 13.43 billion yuan outside fund, the projects generated 35.027 billion yuan in contract revenue and 530 million yuan in profit.
