Beijing Municipal Government recently holds the 17th executive meeting to research the work of IPR protection in large scale commercial retail units of the city. Guo Jinlong, Deputy Secretary of the CPC Beijing Municipal Committee and Beijing Mayor presides over the meeting.

According to the meeting, IPR protection means respecting intelligence and the creativity of a country, a region and even an individual, which is conducive to constantly stimulating the creative impetus of the whole society. Protecting IPRs is an important indication of social civilization and progress. As the capital of China, Beijing should strengthen its IPR protection with high standards and strict requirements during its increasingly accelerated internationalization process. The meeting requires various districts, counties and departments to attach great importance to the work of IPR protection, turn the good experience and practices of protecting IPRs during the process of preparing and holding Olympic Games into the long-term mechanisms, further increase the publicity efforts, constantly increase the awareness of IPR protection throughout the society and play the demonstration roles in IPR protection.

Commodity retail sector is an important window trade of Beijing, and large scale commercial retail units represent the city's image; it is also an important sector to demonstrate the comprehensive effect of IPR protection in Beijing. In order to further standardize IPR administration and protection in retail sector and strengthen the overall planning and coordination of the work of IPR protection among various administrative departments, Beijing has formulated the Regulations of Beijing on IPR Protection in Large Scale Commercial Retail Units.
