On October 15, 2007 the 102nd China Import and Export Fair (CIEF), China's largest trade fair called as the Canton Fair too, was opened. New measures in IPR protection have been taken at the fair, including the regulation of punishment for permanently depriving IPR violators from future qualification for CIEF exhibition opportunities. Those who have been judged as judicially or administratively offending IPR and continue to put pirated exhibits during the fair will be permanently disqualified from future exhibitions. Moreover, those who have been deprived from qualification for some sessions of the fair because of IPR infringement, if they are suspected to infringe against IPR once again, will also be disqualified forever.
The fair, with an overall area of up to 635,000 square meters and a total of 32,005 booths, 323 more than the previous, accommodates a total of 15,054 companies. Among them, 1,644 businesses comprising of 4,034.5 booths are from the Guangdong province trade group. Commencing from this session, a blooming Baoxiang Flower and a Shunfeng Lun have been chosen as the new logo of the Canton Fair.
Based on the experience of the import fair held for the first time in the previous session, the import exhibition space this time has been extended to 15,000 square meters, 50% more than that of the 101st CIEF, with the trade show running from October 15th to 20th. Meanwhile, a total of 480 overseas companies, from 57 countries and regions, exhibit their products, including 17 companies from the world's 9 least developed countries, representing a trend that more and more participants are attracted by the fair.
According to the fair organizer, from the aspect of IPR management, all the exhibition firms are required to strengthen the awareness of IPR protection, to apply the IP records their trademarks, patents and copyrights before showing, and to inspect by themselves during the fair in order to avoid any IPR infringement.
