Jiangsu Releases the Patent Landscape Reports on the Healthcare Industry

 

On April 20, the Jiangsu Intellectual Property Publicity Week was launched in Nanjing, at which Jiangsu Patent Information Service Center released the Patent Landscape Reports on the Healthcare Industry.

Focusing on the theme of IP Publicity Week 2020, "Intellectual Property and Healthy China", and according to the industries listed in the National Bureau of Statistics's Statistical Classification of Healthcare Industries (2019), the Report analyzes the patents landscape on the key technologies of 56 fourth-level branches, including healthcare products, skincare products, anti-tumor drugs, new vaccines, medical imaging devices and glasses manufacturing, which are involved in four technical fields, namely, health environment, self-care, medical treatment and medical devices.

The report shows that as of April 10, 2020, 8,740,446 patent applications of the healthcare industry had been published worldwide, mainly in self-care and medical treatment industries, accounting for 39.2% and 38.6% respectively. There have been 2,582,548 patent applications of the healthcare industry in China, accounting for 29.6% of the world's total, followed by Japan and the United States, accounting for 15.25% and 11.3% respectively. China has published 758,000 patent applications in the medical treatment industry, ranking first in the world. Foreign enterprises in the United States, Japan and Germany have applied for 119,000 patents in China, accounting for 57.5% of the foreign patent applications in China. In the past 10 years, patent applications in the medical treatment industry are mostly on gene diagnosis, stem cell therapy, polypeptide protein drugs, anti-tumor drugs, in vitro diagnostic devices and other technologies in Shanghai, Beijing, Jiangsu and Guangdong. The report analyzes the research and development institutions and key inventor teams of healthcare industries in Jiangsu Province, China and the world, studies the priorities of various technologies, and puts forward countermeasures and suggestions for healthcare industry innovation and leading enterprise cultivation. The report provides guidance for the development of the healthcare industry and innovation of enterprises in Jiangsu.

Following the information industry, the healthcare industry will be the next focus of the global new economy. In recent years, China has issued policies to support the development of the healthcare industry and officially set up "Healthy China" as a national strategy.
