China's video game industry generated 230.88 billion yuan ($32.95 billion) in sales this year, up 7.7 percent from 2018, with the user base expanded to 640 million in the country, according to a report released in Haikou, capital of Hainan province, on Dec 19. Overseas markets contributed $11.59 million to the total sales, nearly 70 percent of it coming from the United States, Japan and South Korea. The growth is due to enhanced intellectual property protection, growing application of new technologies including 5G, virtual reality and augmented reality, and emerging growth spots such as livestreaming businesses and e-sports, experts said.
