Chan Laiwa, founder of the China Red Sandalwood Museum, announced in September that its new branch is scheduled to open in Hengqin, Guangdong province, at the end of this year. The new facility in the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area will showcase the traditional Chinese art of red sandalwood carving, which was ranked among national intangible cultural heritage in 2011, and provide a premium platform for international cultural exchanges, Chan said. The museum has received hundreds of thousands of visitors from around the world since it opened in Beijing 20 years ago.
