The China National Intellectual Property Administration has allowed 72 companies to use geographic indications on 12 types of products. These include jasmine tea from Fuzhou, red tea from Pu'an, blueberry from Majiang and rice from Luoding. GI is a sign used on products that have a specific geographical origin and possess qualities or a reputation that are due to it. A company can apply for a GI usage with the local authorities at the origin of the GImarked product. The application will be submitted to the provincial IP department and subject to the final approval of the CNIPA.
