Zhangjiajie City is located in the northwest of Hunan Province, with Yongding District, Wulingyuan District, Cili County and Sangzhi County under its jurisdiction. With a middle subtropical zone humid monsoon climate, Zhangjiajie has beautiful mountains and rivers, lush vegetation, dense streams and clear water quality, which creates unique ecological conditions for the growth of andrias davidianus.

Cultured Zhangjiajie andrias davidianus features broad and flat head, strong body and tender meat. The meat protein content is higher than 17%, the selenium content is higher than 150 mg/kg, and the magnesium content is more than 200 mg/kg. It is well-known for the characteristic of high protein, low fat and low cholesterol.

Since the implementation of the protection of geographical indication products, Zhangjiajie has implemented measures to protect wild andrias davidianus and develop the industry of cultured andrias davidianus, so as to build a "home of andrias davidianus in China". According to statistics, the current scale of Zhangjiajie andrias davidianus breeding is 1.03 million, and the annual breeding of andrias davidianus seedlings is 300,000, with an output value of 71.8 million yuan.
