Political Advisors Propose Law Revision for Better Application of New Techs

Political advisors on Monday pooled their wisdom to discuss legal revisions that would facilitate the application of scientific and technological achievements.

Yu Zhengsheng, chairman of the National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference, presided over the bi-weekly symposium.

According to a statement issued after the meeting, political advisors suggested that the Law on the Application of Scientific and Technological Achievements, enacted in 1996, was not suitable in the current environment.

The results of scientific or technological research are not often transformed into marketable products due to policy barriers, they argued.

It was suggested that the legal interests of researchers and intellectual property rights should be protected.

The law should also encourage businesses to take an active part in research and development, and cooperation with research institutions should be facilitated, the advisors said.
