Long Xiang: Let More University Patents Go Aboard

"My dream is to place more and more Chinese inventions on international stage and achieve greater value,"said Long Xiang, the President of Beijing Qixingtian Consulting Company.

After graduated from the Department of Mechanics and Engineering Science, Peking University, Long Xiang went to the U.S. to continue his education, and got his Ph.D. in engineering and law. Then he found a job in Wilson Sonsini Godrich&Rosati Law Office. Thanks to his law and engineering background, he soon became a patent lawyer. While he is accumulating the wisdom that comes with above 10-year experiences, Long Xiang realized that although China has huge invention patents, the economic benefit came from the patents is poor. A thought then came to him: Could I explore some Chinese high quality invention patents and file PTC applications?

In 2012, Long Xiang went back to China and established the Qixingtian consulting Company in Zhongguancun, Beijing. He took aim at Chinese universities, which have strong R&D power. He plans to filter some high-quality invention patents through pre-evaluation, and achieve greater value by filing PCT applications in the U.S.. Not long ago, Qingxingtian signed an overseas patent cooperation agreement with Chongqing University of Post.

"We are probably the first mover in this field. There is a long way to go, we hope that we could help more invention patents of universities to go aboard. Maybe this patent commercialization way could provide a new idea for innovators in university to realize there own value, and improve their IPR awareness as well, "when talked about the goals of establishing Qixingtian, Long Xiang told to CIP News reporter.

"At present, Chinese IP community lacked high-level talent. We hope Qixingtian can cultivate a group of compound talents who have both strong foundation of scientific knowledge and understand the rules of patent commercialization of the U.S.,"added Long Xiang. The dream is coming true.
