Senior Official Calls for More Efforts to Curb Porn, Protect IPRs

A senior Chinese official on Monday called for more efforts to eliminate pornography and other illegal publications as well as to protect intellectual property rights (IPR).

Liu Yunshan, a member of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee, made the remarks at a nationwide teleconference.

Government at all levels should firmly eliminate pornography and other "cultural rubbish," and pay more attention to IPR protection for publications to create a fine cultural environment for the CPC's upcoming 18th National Congress, Liu said.

The fight against pornography and other illegal publications is in the people's immediate interests and the country's long-term stability, Liu said, adding that the government should strengthen supervision and adopt new methods to prevent illegalities in publication.
