State Council: China to Launch Campaign Against IPR Violations

China will launch a new national campaign to crack down on violations of intellectual property rights and on the production and distribution of fake and shoddy products. The decision was made at a regular meeting of the State Council on October 19, which was presided over by Chinese Premier Wen Jiabao. The anti-piracy campaign kicks off at the end of October and will run for half a year.


The campaign will target violations of copyrights, registered trademarks and patents, both at the production and distribution levels, covering everything from press and publication industry, cultural and entertainment industry, high-tech industry and agricultural industry etc. The campaign will enhance China's scrutiny over the import and export of fake goods and mete out stern punishment to businesses involved. All efforts are striven to create a favorable environment for IPR protection. 


The meeting required that all agencies involved at different levels should work closely to strengthen coordination and supervision inspection. Implementation plans should be prudently drafted and strictly carried out, inform channel be unimpeded to improve social supervision and ensure the campaign efficiency.
