Oracle Corp. has sued Google, charging that its Android phone software infringes on Oracle patents and copyrights related to Java applications.
In its complaint, filed on Thursday with the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of California, Oracle said Google's Android operating system software consists of Java applications and its other technology, according to AP report.
"This lawsuit seeks appropriate remedies," Oracle spokeswoman Karen Tillman said in a statement.
Oracle, which makes database software and other technology, acquired Java through its 5.6- billion-USD purchase of Sun Microsystems earlier this year.
Java can be used as a platform for building applications for computers, websites and smart phones and other mobile devices.
Google spokesman Andrew Pederson said the company can't comment because it has not yet reviewed the lawsuit.
