Press Conference on 2009 China Software Piracy Rate Survey was held in Beijing on May 10th. The report shows that China's software piracy rate in 2009 in terms of market prices dropped to 12% compared to 15% last year.
The report shows that in 2009, the value of pirated software in China in terms of market prices stood at about 128.9 billion RMB, approximately the same to the last year. In the assumption that the market parameters stayed the same, if we put the installed copies of pirated software in current market prices and converted them into value terms, the value piracy rate of the software industry dropped to 12% from 15% in 2008, and the value of piracy rate of software products dropped to 28% from 29% in 2008.
The report shows that in terms of the copies of the genuine software installation should be purchased, China's software piracy rate dropped from 47% in 2008 to 45%. From 2005 to 2009, the operating system softwares piracy rates were 81%, 68%, 39%, 29%, 27% on a yearly basis.
The Chinese Academy of Engineering Academician Ni Guangnan said in the forum that the wide usage of free and cheap China-made software objective decreased software piracy rate in China significantly. Experts attending the press conference held the idea that in recent years, the continuously growing of the independent innovation capability of China's software industry was an important reason for the declining piracy rate.
