Copyright Expo Extols Investment, Exchanges

With a focus on the international development and integration of the nation's copyright industry, the third China International Copyright Expo will be held at the National Convention Center in Beijing from Nov 18 to 21.

The annual event plays an important role for Chinese copyrights as they reach out to global markets, said Dong Weiren, vice-director general of copyright management department under the National Copyright Administration.

It also serves as a forum to promote copyright-related investment and attract partners from across the world, Dong added.

The expo will include international copyright forums, an industrial exhibition, festivals and cultural performances.

Highlighting opportunities brought to China's cultural and creative industries by the 3G era, the expo will display copyright achievements and promote deals between copyright holders and investors.

Financing channels and Internet copyright protection will be main subjects of discussions.

Participants include representatives from the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO), copyright organizations, financial institutions, foreign embassies, representative offices in China and experts in the international copyright industry.

Li Heng, president of the Beijing International Copyright Trade Center, said activities at the expo will also include fairs and festivals on Internet literature, digital music, film and video, cultural industries and investment.

"The main task of the expo will be exchanges and transactions," Li said. "Activities will further enhance established cooperation between the domestic and international copyright industries, increase awareness of copyright protection, and develop deals, investment and financing," she said.

The expo is organized by General Administration of Press and Publication, National Copyright Administration, China Council for the Promotion of International Trade (CCPIT) and Beijing Municipal People's Government, and operated by Beijing Municipal Copyright Administration, Beijing Branch of CCPIT and Chaoyang District People's Government in Beijing.

Held twice since 2008, the event has been well received by the WIPO, cultural and creative industries and foreign copyright institutions.
