In 2009, SIPO received a total of 314,573 invention patent applications, up 8.5% than 289,838 in 2008, 229,096 of which were from domestic (including Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan), representing 72.8% of the total, up 17.7% over the previous year from 194,579. At the same time, 85,477 were filed from abroad, representing 27.2%, down 10.3% over the previous year of 95,259.
