The now effective revised Patent Examination Guideline was approved on January 21, the day the Implementing Regulations of the Patent Law in force.

In November 2008, SIPO started revising the Guideline, pursuant to the modification of the Implementing Regulations. Led by SIPO Commissioner Tian Lipu and Deputy Commissioner He Hua, the group responsible for the revision assembled specialists from different fields. Based on suggestions and opinions from the public, the newly revised guidelines finally came into effect after rounds of research, discussion and deliberation.

The newly revised Guideline aims to follow the steps of the changed Implementing Regulations as well as improve the patent examination and grant efficiency and procedure.
