China's Campaign Against Online Infringement Delivers

As informed by the National Copyright Administration of China (NCAC) on its fifth campaign against online piracy on January 20, authorities nationwide constantly monitored 3,130 web sites on the watch list, handled 558 network piracy cases in a national special campaign, shut down 375 illicit web sites, rendered 556 provisional measures to order web sites to delete or block infringing contents, imposed 1.3375 million yuan in fines, confiscated 163 servers, and handed over 25 criminal cases to judicial authorities.

According to a principal of NCAC, concerted efforts will be made to fight those web sites engaging in both piracy and broadcasting pornographic and illegal publications. Copyright administrations at all levels handled some 40 illegal web sites, representing for 12% of all that the sites shut down.
