Campaign against Internet Piracy Delivers

The National Copyright Administration of China (NCAC) announced on December 18 that as of November 20, authorities handled 541 network piracy cases in a national special campaign, shut down 362 illicit web sites, rendered 552 provisional measures to order web sites to delete or shield infringing contents, imposed 1.2825 million yuan in fines, confiscated 154 servers, and handed over 24 criminal cases to judicial authorities.

According to a principal of NCAC, concreted efforts will be made to fight those web sites engaging in both piracy and broadcasting pornographic and illegal publications. Copyright administrations at all levels handled some 40 illegal web sites, representing for 12% of all that the sites shut down.
