As of December 7, 2009, China has granted cumulative 3,007,636 patents; among them, 573,372 for invention, representing 19.1%; 1,340,391 for utility model, representing 44.5%; 1,093,873 for design, representing 36.4%.

The latest statistics shows that the volume of Chinese patent grant presents the following characteristics during its fast increasing period: first is the obvious shorter time consumed. Eighteen years and four months after the implementation of the Chinese Patent Law, patents granted hit the first million.  Later, it took four years and two months to register the second million.  Then it took only two years and one month to reach the third. Secondly, the invention grants maintained a steady and relatively fast growth, domestic filers contributed to 50.5% of the total in the first eleven months and 7.1% up on 2006; among which, domestic enterprises accounted for 43.6%.It is 9.5% more than in 2006.
