Between November 5th and 8th 2009, Cross-strait Cooperation and Exchange Conferences on Agriculture, Fisheries and Water Resources were held in two venues, Shanghai and Zhejiang respectively.

Participants present in the meeting made a joint initiative on the afternoon of the 8th: the cross-strait exchange and cooperation shall be promoted in the IP field of the agricultural sector. They pledged to give their support to strengthen the protections of trademarks and patents registered in their counterpart's legal systems.

People from all walks of life present in the meeting affirmed the progress made in the field of agriculture, fisheries and water resources through recent exchanges and cooperation. They jointly proposed 12 initiatives to strengthen and deepen cooperation in related fields, including: the agriculture field; mutual protection of intellectual property, including the agricultural-related enterprises of Taiwan; cross-strait efforts on energy conservation; developing green energy industry; cross-strait scholarship. This will greatly help accelerate the R&D of energy-saving and emission-reducing technology and thereby establish a platform for a cross-straight green energy industry. This will facilitate industries on both sides of the strait to jointly explore cross-straight and global markets.

Member of the Standing Committee of the Central Committee Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China, Chairman of the National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference Jia Qinglin, and Chairman of People First Party Song Chuyu attended the meeting and delivered speeches.
