840 Invention Patents Reap Top Science Rewards

Original innovations dominate the awarding ceremony for state sci-tech progress on January 9. The 2008 winners for technological invention and for sci-tech progress are backed by 840 invention patents in total.

According to deputy director for the event Hu Xiaojun, 840 inventions share 280 technological invention awards and 560 sci-tech progress awards.  The total number of winning projects supported by invention patents are 140, 37 of which obtain the former awards while the rest 103 harvest the latter ones.  The most invention-patent-laden project is non silicon MEMS technology and its application, with 40 inventions. 

The 2008 State Top Sci-Tech Awards went to neurologist Wang Zhongcheng and chemist Xu Guangxian.  The rest of the awards are 34 second prizes for natural science, 55 for technological inventions (3 first, 52 second), 254 for sci-tech progress (3 super, 26 first and 225 second), international cooperation awards for 3 foreign scientists.
