Supreme People's Court: Severely Punishing IP-Related Criminals

While reporting to the Standing Committee of the National People's Congress on strengthening the work of criminal trial and maintaining judicial justice on October 26, Wang Shengjun, President of the Supreme People's Court notes that measures will be taken to severely punish the criminals who seriously damage the market economic order, such as IPR infringement.

Mr. Wang explains to the Standing Committee of the National People's Congress in detail on how to correctly implement the policy of adopting lenient and severe measures to criminals according to different conditions and ensure the organic unification of legal and social effects. He points out that the guideline of server punishment will be adopted in criminal cases of severely damaging the market economic orders such as smuggle, fraudulent fund collection, severe duty crimes of corruption, bribery and malfeasance, and other criminal cases that may cause strong responses from the masses and seriously damage people's life and health such as food security crime, fake and inferior agricultural materials crime and grave safety responsibility accident crime.

During the five years from 2003 to the first half this year, courts nationwide actively launch special actions such as rectifying and standardizing market economic order and cracking down on commercial briberies, and severely punish those criminals related to food and medicine security such as producing and selling toxic and harmful food and fake and inferior medicines and socialist market economic order such as IPR-infringement and financial fraudulence. More than 100,000 criminals are punished, up 26.92 percent year on year, maintaining the market economic order.
