Sources from the website of the National Development and Reform Commission (NDRC) show that NDRC and Ministry of Finance recently issues the Circular on the Standard of Online Trademark Registration Fee and Relative Questions, stipulating that online trademark registration fee should be 20 percent lower than that of paper-based registration. The Circular is to be effective as of October 1, 2008.
In order to promote the work of online trademark registration and improve the quality and efficiency of trademark registration, the Circular points out that online trademark registration fee is set to be 800 yuan for one trademark registration, 20 percent lower than that of paper-based registration. One trademark registration is limited consist of 10 commodities of its kind, and 80 yuan will be charged for every extra commodity.
By the end of 2007, the number of trademark applications had exceeded 5.6 million with more than 3 million being registered.
