Joint Working Group of Combating Olympic Infringement and Piracy Established

In order to effectively safeguard Olympic copyrights and other related rights, severely crack down on the practice of illegally relaying the events of the 29th Olympic Games and related activities, a Joint Working Group of Combating Olympic Infringement and Piracy is recently established in Beijing.

The Working Group is to execute the Fast Response System of Dealing With Cases of Illegally Relaying Olympic Events and Related Activities, conduct real-time supervision and fast-response actions against the infringements of new media relay rights on the internet nationwide, guide, track, coordinate and urge the process of case handling, collect the dynamic information such as the process of handling the cases of Olympic new media relay right infringement, actively communicate with the International Olympic Committee, organize information release and so on.

The National Copyright Administration of China (NCAC) is responsible for the coordination work of cracking down on the practice of infringing Olympic new media relay rights, conduct supervision according to the working procedures of Olympic fast response system, collect clues of Olympic new media relay right infringements and organize administrative law enforcement; Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT) is to execute related stipulations of Olympic fast response system. After receiving messages from copyright law-enforcement departments, it would take immediate measures such as cutting off internet access and block the websites; the State Administration of Radio, Film and Television (SARFT) would severely punish those websites that illegally relay Olympic events and related activities by illegally using video-audio program signals; and the State Council Information Office undertakes the task of publicizing the Olympic fast response system.

The Joint Working Group of Combating Olympic Infringement and Piracy consists of SCAC, MIIT, SARFT and the State Council Information Office, headed by SCAC.
