(Xinhua News Agency) Invited by Hu Jintao, President of the People’s Republic of China, Lee Myung-bak, President of the Republic of Korea pays a state visit to China from May 27 to 30, 2008. On May 28, the People’s Republic of China and the Republic of Korea issue a joint declaration, agreeing to strengthen cooperation in IP and other sectors.
During his visit in China, President Hu Jintao talks with President Lee Myung-bak. President Lee also meets Chinese Premier Wen Jiabao and Chairman of the National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference Jia Qinglin. During the meetings and talks, both parties deeply exchange views and have reached wide consensus on further developing the friendly cooperation between China and South Korea and other regional and international affairs of both concerns. Both parties agree to strengthen cooperation in areas like IPR protection, food security, quality inspection, logistics and labor cooperation.
President Lee expresses deep condolence and solicitude to China for the great casualties and economic losses caused by the recent violent earthquake in Wenchuan County of Sichuan Province and would like to provide necessary help for China’s disaster relief work. President Hu Jintao and other Chinese leaders express their sincere thanks to South Korean Government and People for their concerns to the disasters in China, urgent assistances and dispatch of a rescue team to China. Both parties agree to strengthen exchanges and cooperation in coping with natural disasters such as earthquake, tsunami and typhoon.
