On the eve of the eighth World Intellectual Property Day, well-known enterprises of various fields whose trademarks have been long imitated launched their collective actions. Recently, China Intellectual Property News holds the Symposium on Protecting IPR and Combating the Illegitimate Competition Practice of Imitating Famous Trademarks. SIPO Deputy Commissioner Xing Shengcai attends the symposium and delivers a speech, noting that as a part of IPR, trademark rights are of vital importance to an enterprise. It is an important part of IP work to safeguard the rights and interests of trademark rights owners according to law. In this sense, cracking down on the illegitimate competition practice of imitating famous trademarks is also one of the important contents of protecting trademark rights.
The symposium aims at introducing the Chinese mainland enterprises the laws, regulations and judicial procedures of Hong Kong, and establishing a dialogue platform for enterprises to litigate in Hong Kong and maintain rights in the mainland. Judges from the Supreme People’s Court particularly interpret the policies, laws and regulations related to the phenomenon of imitating famous trademarks to participating enterprises, and supply regulation-oriented guides for some practical problems; IP experts from academic circle also illustrate their opinions on rectifying the practice of imitating famous trademarks from different angles and give out suggestions related to the improvement of relative laws and regulations; meanwhile, representatives from some enterprises that have made achievements in the campaign of fighting against the illegal phenomenon also share their experience with other participants.
Participants also actively appeal for related competent governmental departments’ to improve laws and regulation in this regards.
Relevant people from the SIPO, the State Administration for Industry and Commerce, the Supreme People’s Court and IP circle in Hong Kong, and representatives from more than 30 famous enterprises participate in the symposium.
