President of the International Olympic Committee (IOC) Jacques Rogge, who attended XVI Association of National Olympic Committees General Assembly in Beijing April 9, 2008, lauded BOCOG's efforts in the protection of Olympic intellectual property rights (IPR) in an exclusive interview recently.
The president lauded BOCOG's efforts in the protection of Olympic intellectual property rights (IPR). "BOCOG is OK. There is no problem with BOCOG, BOCOG is totally respecting [of IPR]," he said.
Some people and companies in other countries have been involved in ambush marketing, and the IOC has taken measures to stop the practice because the ambush marketing violates Olympic IPR. "It's like robbing because you rob what belongs to someone else," he said.
He pointed out that Beijing has protected Olympic IPR in the case of counterfeit mascots or other products because BOCOG "has invested in that and BOCOG must protect." He hoped that the Olympic Games would be "a catalyst" for the protection of IPR.
