In the morning of January 17, 2008, the Information Office of State Council held a press conference on topic of “the special campaign against piracy in internet". Yan Xiaohong, Vice-Commissioner of General Administration of Press News and Publications and Deputy Director of the National Administration of Copyright (NAC) said that China investigated and dealt with 1,001 cases involving copyright infringement in internet.
On August 1, 2007, the NAC issued “The Notification on the Campaign against Piracy in internet in 2007" together with the Ministry of Public Security and the Ministry of Information Industry, starting of the third nationwide special action against piracy and infringement in internet. The campaign fulfilled its target, and dealt with 1,001 cases, 60 percent more than the total in 2005 and 2006. The relevant authorities stop 823 infringement cases, closed 339 illegal websites, confiscated 123 servers and 51 computers, imposed fines totaling 870,750 yuan, and transferred 31 cases to judicial organs. We have to make the criminals pay higher for their infringement and piracy than they can afford.
