On January 8, 2008, when the National Science and Technology Awarding Ceremony was held in Beijing, Mr. Wang Yongmin and Wang Zichun, recommended by China Invention Society, were awarded Second National Technological Invention Prize and Second National Technological Progress Prize.
Wang Yongmin, inventor of Five-Stroke Chinese character input software, the first fast Chinese character input method by using keyboard in world, broke the bottleneck of Chinese character input technology, and is regarded of equal significance of invention of typography in around 1040 in ancient China. During his more than 20 years of experiment and research, Mr. Wang kept on upgrading his Five-Stroke system, and invented a complete printing system able to process 27,533 simplified and traditional Chinese characters, meaning most of Chinese characters can be processed with this software. His system, meeting the requirement of China's national criteria, even set up an international and standard Chinese character input system (Invention Patent No. ZL01118413.2,ZL99109798.X) .
Five-Stroke software owns invention patents in China, USA and Britain, and won many software copyrights, and also has become a dominant Chinese character input system at home and abroad. It is widely adopted by UN and Southeast Asia, and Microsoft, IBM, HP, Apple as well as other 20 international companies have purchased the patent using rights. This invention makes historical contribution to China's scientific and technological progress, and the modernization of Chinese character in the information era, bringing about dramatic social and economic benefits.
Research and Industrialization High-Performance Digital Railway Signal Cable, the project finished by Mr. Wang Zichun and others awarded in the awarding ceremony, solved a key technical problem in China's high-speed railway development, enabling China to realize the compatibility of railway analog signals and digital signals, signal control and signal transmission. So China can use one cable to finish various functions, and the safety of signal transmission, transmission speed, efficiency and anti-jamming ability can all meet the need of high-speed railway. All its main technical specifications have been approved more superior than traditional products, and also taken as new industrial standards. This transformation from traditional railway signals to digital has made significant contribution to the overall speeding up of China's railway.
This technology not only owns its independent IP, but also has been already applied in many main railways in China. Now the product has very good market, and become the first choice of China railway companies.
In the recent three years, particularly, it has sold 1.28 billion yuan and handed more than 300 million yuan of tax.
Wang Zichun, used to be a farmer and then a technician working in countryside, studied modern technology very hard, and becomes the only National Technological Progress Prize winner with a farmer background.
China Invention Society, since authorized as recommender of National Technological Prize, has recommended 5 candidates, and 3 of them have been awarded. Now the society is ready to recommend candidates for the prize in 2008.
