China Customs Drafts out IP Protection Plan for Olympics

On January 7, a senior official of China Customs said that China will host an excellent Olympics in IPR protection, and the China Customs has drafted out a plan for IPR protection during 2008 Beijing Olympics.

"Protecting Olympics IP does not merely mean the protection of Olympic logo, but more importantly, enhance the fighting against piracy and infringement", the official said.

According to the plan, China Customs will make regulations on goods by post or carried by passengers that involve in piracy and infringement, and enforce supervision to the imports and exports related to Olympics and publicizing IPR protection ideas to overseas tourists.

China Customs actually has done a lot in IPR protection related to Olympics. Last November, for example, China Customs at Xiamen Gaoqi Airport caught 10 infringed sets of a cartoon series film about Olympics. This was also the first audio-video IP case China Customs had related to Olympics from people leaving the country. In addition to these, China Customs had also captured more than 2,000 desk calendars with Olympics logo in Huangpu Guangzhou, 930 key rings with Fuwa (the mascots of Beijing 2008 Olympic Games) in Dalian, 300 Fuwa in Gongbei Shenzhen, etc.
