The National Working Conference of Industrial and Commercial Administration held in Beijing on December 20 released that, by the end of November 2007 China's trademark registration, totaling 3.0137 million, enjoyed a 29.19% increase over the same period of last year. This year also witnessed the birth of 197 well-known trademarks, and thus, over 1,000 well-known trademarks have been recognized by the trademark office of the State Administration for Industry and Commerce (SAIC).
Since the beginning of 2007, industrial and commercial administration departments at all levels has begun to rectify and standardize market order strengthened supervision and law enforcement and organized special campaigns to some specific problems, thus has effectively guarded the market order and protect the legal rights of consumers and businesses.
New measures for trademark registration management and administrative protection have been also carried out. By adopting pre-examination and limiting registration, for example, SAIC has primarily solved such problems as malignant application, malignant objection and malignant transfer.
In addition, SAIC has also speeded up transferring trademark cases to the police department, and organized special action for protecting the exclusive right of Olympic logo and emblem. By the end of November, a total of 41,000 trademark infringement cases had been dealt with, and 143 cases have been transferred to the judicial department.
