US to Promote Dialogue with China on IP

In the morning of October 24, Mr. Jon W. Dudas, the Director of United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO) addressed at a press conference during 2007 Ambassador's Roundtable Discussion on Intellectual Property Rights that the US resorting to the WTO for dispute between US and China was for dealing with some concrete disputes that had not been settled yet, instead of replacing Sino-US cooperation in IP field.

Mr. Dudas said that China State Intellectual Property Office (SIPO) had become largest five patent organizations in the world, and SIPO, same as USPTO, were facing continuous growth of new problems and challenges, so the two offices had signed a work plan on strategic cooperation.

Referring to the disputes between two countries on IP, the American official noted that the best way to solve differences is to continue to dialogue. "China is a mature trade partner and a member of the WTO as well. There will be more Chinese companies involving into IPR systems of the United States and other countries in the future. So, Chinese enterprises and IPR holders need to understand American operation way of IP law system, and the US companies also need to know the situation of China's intellectual property," Mr. Dudas added.
