On October 10-11, the third International Symposium for Modifying the Patent Law of the People's Republic of China was jointly held by the Department of Education, Science, Culture and Public Health of the Legislative Affairs Office (LAO) of the State Council. Wang Yongqing, Vice Minister of LAO delivered a keynote speech at the opening ceremony. A total of 18 domestic and foreign experts and scholars attended the international symposium.
At the symposium, experts discussed extensively and deeply on the four special issues of the conditions of patents grant for genetic resources-based inventions, the ownership and exercise of patent rights and the protection of design, improvement of patent-related judicial proceedings and counting of compensation for right infringements, and limitation of patent rights. The participating experts reached consensus on some issues, and had warm debates and exchanged views in frank manners on some controversial issues. These experts spoke highly of this international symposium, especially foreign experts who paid high tribute to the openness and transparency of China's legislation work embodied during the international symposium. The symposium achieved abundant fruits and will positively promote China's patent law modification work.
