China's IT Patent Application Rises at an Annual Rate of 23.67 Percent

The Ninth Release Conference of Patent Situation in IT Sector was held on August 27 in Shanghai. At the conference, the Ministry of Information Industry issued the 2007 Analysis Report on Patent Situation in IT Sector, according to which, the IT patent application in China since 2000 has been growing rapidly at an annual rate of 23.67 percent, higher than the average growth of 18.11 percent of domestic patent application.

Through analyzing patent application related to IT sector, layout-design of integrated circuit and statistics of software copyright registration, the Report illustrates the IP development in IT sector in recent years. The Report indicates that the IT patent application in China since 2000 has been growing rapidly at an annual rate of 23.67 percent, higher than the average growth of 18.11 percent of domestic patent application. IT patent application accounts for 32.24 percent of China's total patent application of invention and utility model, with the proportion exceeding 42 percent in the catalogue of patent of invention. The high growth of IP application in information industry reflects the rising of the level of technological innovation and the increase of technological strength in China in recent years. Meanwhile, it indicates that the IP system is exerting increasingly important stimulation roles in China's information industry in terms of technological innovation, transformation of industrial structure and the healthy development of information industry.
