350 Volunteer Lawyers Work for Beijing Olympics IP Protection

Beijing Bar Association recently held its biannual summing-up meeting and announced to recruit 350 volunteer lawyers in five batches to work for Beijing Olympics IP protection. These lawyers will collect and check information on intellectual property related to Beijing Olympic Games.

According to Peng Xuefeng, Vice President of the Beijing Bar Association, entrusted by BOCOG(the Beijing Organizing Committee for the Games of the XXIX Olympiad ), his association started recruiting lawyers in August 2006 to supply volunteer services to BOCOG during the pre-Olympics period. These volunteers, 70 people in a batch for a six-month term, should not only meet the requirements of the BOCOG, but also have experiences of IP protection and sufficient time.

These pre-Olympics volunteers' work includes collecting and checking the clues of Olympics IPR violations and helping BOCOG publicize information on Olympics IPR protection.

Peng noted that two batches of volunteers are currently ready for service and another three batches will be recruited before the opening of Beijing Olympic Game on August 8, 2008. The program will involve 350 lawyers.
Meanwhile, Beijing Bar Association also signed agreements with law schools of Peking University, Tsinghua University, Renmin University of China and China University of Political Science and Law to jointly establish a practice base for law-major students. A total of 100 Beijing-based law offices will offer 500 practicing posts for them.
