The 10th China Beijing International High-Tech Expo (CHITEC) concluded on May 29. The Expo attracted over 1,900 high and new tech enterprises, more than 3,000 foreign guests from 34 countries and regions, and 230,000 visitors. 171 projects were signed on investment promotion, technological cooperation and trade, with a total volume of nearly USD 2.846 billion. Among all the deals sealed, there were 152 proprietary IPR-related projects, or 88.88% of the total.
Moreover, the Chinese brands were definitely the stars of the Expo. CHITEC offered a competitive platform for multinationals not only to promote their new products, but showcase their development strategy and corporate images in China.
The New "Chinese Chip" — Wantong V (WT6205) / MAC chip made its debut on CHITEC. The chip was developed by Beijing microelectronics technology CO., LTD, and was the first WT V chip with full hardware support of China' s WAPI2.0 encryption standard. Apart from all the merits of WT Ⅳ major function modules (MAC, BBP, ADC/DAC and RF Interface), the chip was embedded with WAPI2.0 hardware encryption modules to render full support for China's WAPI encryption with proprietary IPR.
China' s magnetically levitated train (maglev train) with proprietary IPR announced its appearance on CHITEC and soon became the focus of attention. According to an exhibition staff member, the yellow-white train was independently developed by China and it falls within the medium and low speed category. With movable compartments, it is applicable for transportation within a city, or among close cities and tourist spots, reaching a velocity of 100—150km/h.
Tsinghua Unisplendour Corporation Limited (TH-UNIS), a major player in the TH-UNIS industrial cluster, has developed the first 2D and color barcode standards for mobiles with proprietary IPR. Since 2005, UNIS has invested heavily in barcode development and application, conducted thorough market research, and launched numerous demo projects on the application of 2D barcode for mobiles. With technologies, services and solutions readily offered in diverse fields, UNIS is the precursor in mobile barcode application, including media interaction, logistic tracking, administrative law enforcement and online ticket business. In 2006, UNIS developed UnisCode (U code) identification technologies with proprietary IPR, and initiated Beijing U Code Project based on U code mobile terminal identification technologies.
Compared with previous events, the 10th CHITEC was held on the eve of 2008 Olympic games. Determined to build an innovative metropolis, Beijing exudes its charm as the host city of "technological Olympics". The fruits of such an ambition, including Beijing digital information booths, multilingual Olympic service system, and the transportation network system of Olympic cities, all reflected the profound social changes brought by the Olympic games and humane solicitude for the participants of the Expo.
The organizing committee of CHITEC has decided that the 11th CHITEC will be held in next May according to schedule.
