At the 10th China Beijing International High-Tech Expo (CHITEC) themed with "Innovation and Development", 8 forums involving IPR and Innovation have come under the spotlight and added much to the relevance of the Expo.
IPR Has Become the Pillar for High and New Technology Enterprises
International Forum on Proprietary Innovation and Development of China High—tech Enterprises was the highlight of CHITEC' s 8 forums. China' s SIPO commissioner Tian Lipu pointed out at the forum that within the context of knowledge economy and globalization, IPR has increasingly emerged as a powerful weapon and strategic resource for high and new enterprises to outshine their competitors, and the most crucial enterprise asset defying traditional notions. The augmentation of enterprise IPR value on the market parallels the rising contribution rate of technology to economic growth, surpassing the value of tangible assets. Innovative spirit, as the inner driver of IPR, has become the pivotal element for an enterprise to survive and thrive. As a result, more and more technologically advanced enterprises are trying to hone their innovative edges through effective IPR capacity building.
Strengthen Competition Policies and IPR Protection
Many participants of the Forum on New Technologies And the Development of Creative Industry revealed their interest in China' s IPR protection policies. Xie Sufang, director of Hong Kong Intellectual Property Department, said that IPR infringement should be nipped in the bud, instead of waiting for someone to commit the violation. Strategic planning and interregional public policies are the prerequisites for the harmonious coexistence and development of a nation's cultural and social objectives, and its technological and international trade policies. Therefore, it would be advisable to "strengthen competition policies and IPR protection".
The 8 forum and 2 specialized exchange activities of the current session of CHITEC were designed in line with the hotspots in China' s economic and social development, and drew 5,000-strong audience. 174 leaders of international organizations, experts from both home and abroad, senior government officials, globally renowned financial institutions and entrepreneurs addressed the Expo. The Forum on Technological innovation and Urban Management, the first international thematic forum in China dedicated to the issue, attracted hundred-odd officials and experts in the fields of urban management and technological application to jointly explore the avenue of urban management with new technologies.
