The first meeting of the executive committee of the International Olympic Committee (IOC) was convened in Beijing on the morning of April 26, 2007. Liu Qi, member of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee, secretary of the CPC Beijing Committee and chairman of the Beijing Organizing Committee for the Games of the XXIX Olympiad (BOCOG) made a statement report on the preparatory work to the executive committee of the IOC, in which, he introduced the latest information about the preparatory work of the Beijing Olympic Games, including enhancement of the unfolding of Olympic intellectual property right and other 10 aspects.
The 11 aspects of preparatory work of the BOCOG include: new progress in the construction of Olympic sites and stadiums; intensified efforts in improving the environmental administering work and constant upgrading of air quality; energetic development in the construction of transportation and environment through adoption of proactive measures; enhancement of the unfolding of the Torch Relay work; smooth running of the opening/closing ceremonies and the ticket-booking work; all- round unfolding of the preparatory work for the "Good Luck Beijing" sports events; enhancement of the progress in the media service work outside China's border, enhancement of the unfolding of the Olympic intellectual property work; constant improvement of the clients' group service work; enhancement of the unfolding of the heritage work of the Beijing Olympic Games; and active unfolding of the "National body-building along with the Olympics" as well as the Olympic education activities, in order to create an even better social atmosphere.
Liu Qi pointed out in his statement that this is the decisive year for the preparatory work of the Beijing Olympic Games. The Chinese government has rendered even greater support to the preparatory work of the Games. Chinese leaders themselves specially listened to the report on the preparatory work of the BOCOG. In the light of President Hu Jintao's instructions, we will enhance cooperation with the IOC and push forward this year's work in a more down-to-earth and efficient manner.
Opinions were exchanged between the executive committee of the IOC and the BOCOG on doing a good job in this year's preparatory work. Jacques Rogge, chairman of the IOC and Hein Verbruggen, chairman of the coordinating committee for the Games of the XXIX Olympiad said respectively that BOCOG is admirably pushing forward various projects in the preparatory work according to the plan and has made remarkable progress. And the IOC is satisfied with the work of BOCOG. The IOC and its coordinating committee will further enhance the exchange and cooperation with BOCOG. It was learned that the meeting was presided by Jacques Rogge, chairman of the IOC. Wang Qishan, Mayor of Beijing and executive chairman of the BOCOG was also present.
