18 Units Awarded by Foreign Enterprises for Their Outstanding Contribution Made to Protect the Latter's Intellectual Property Rights

On April 26, 18 Chinese government law-enforcement departments including Shanghai Customs and Beijing High People's Court were granted "2006-2007 Best IP Protection Case Award" in Zhengzhou city by the Quality Brand Protection Committee (QBPC) of China Association of Enterprises with Foreign Investment.

According to the introduction by Mr. Zhang Weian, the President of QBPC, and the Senior IPR Consultant of U.S. GM Corp., the QBPC has designed this award for the purpose of commending those Chinese law-enforcement units that have set up a typical example in handling criminal cases of IP infringement with innovative train of thoughts and by effective means so that IP work can be promoted in China.

It is reported that those 18 awarded units were chosen through public appraisal by the QBPC, which are mainly spread in such law-enforcement systems as the customs, public securities, procuratorate and court. At present, the QBPC has 170 member companies, among which a great many are trans-national and international renowned enterprises that boast powerful strength and brand products. Their total investments in China have exceeded USD70 billion. Since its establishment, the QBPC has been dedicating its efforts to cooperation with the Chinese government, enterprises and other institutions in pushing forward IP protection work in the country and has on a number of occasions rendered opinions and suggestions on China's legislation.
