Recently, the "China Ten Fine Cases on IPR Protection in 2006" were published by the Chinese customs offices. The cases of counterfeiting "MOTOROLA" and "PHILIPS" used mobile phones, exported by a storage and transportation company in Guangzhou were included, where were seized by the Huangpu Customs Office in the city.
The "Ten Fine Cases" also included the case of more than 30,000 sets of counterfeiting "李宁" sports suits seized by the Customs Office of Xiamen, around 50,000 packs of "MARLBORO" cigarettes by the Customs Office of Shenzhen, the "Pfizer" pharmaceuticals seized through a tourist inspection channel by the Customs Office of Beijing, "DURTA" batteries by Changsha, "SHTEX" polyester-mixed dye cotton cloth by Qingdao, "DIAMOND" bicycle inner tubes by Shanghai, sports shirts infringing "FIFA" trademark by Hangzhou, "虎头" batteries by Ningbo and sports shoes and clothing counterfeiting some other internationally-known brands by Tianjin.
Meng Yang, Director of the Policy, Law and Regulations Department of the General Administration of Customs of China (GACC), stated at a recent press conference for the "2007 National Publicity Week for IPR Protection" that the Chinese customs offices had further enhanced the intensity of cracking down the illegal acts of IPR infringement goods in 2006 and had achieved outstanding outcome.
Statistics indicate that 2,475 batches of import and export IP infringement goods were intercepted and seized by the Chinese customs offices in 2006, totaling more than 100 million pieces of infringement goods with a value more than 200 million yuan. Among them, 46 batches were imported goods, valued around 23 million yuan, and 2,429 batches were export goods, valued more than 180 million yuan.
