Sino-Japanese Press Communiqué Strengthens Cooperation in IP and Other Areas

Sino-Japanese Joint Press Communiqué was signed by China and Japan in Tokyo on April 11th during Chinese primer's visit to Japan. Both sides agreed to make efforts to deepen mutually beneficial cooperation, and build the cooperation relationship on the base of common strategic interests. They also said in the communiqué that they will also try to realize the goal of common development as well as to strengthen the cooperation in the areas such as energy, environmental protection, finance, information and telecommunication technology, as well as IPR protection. Both sides agreed to enrich and perfect the cooperation mechanism by enhancing dialogue and exchanges, increasing mutual understanding and strengthening mutual-benefit and cooperation, and the two countries will build a strategic mutually beneficial relationship and cooperation in the regional and international affairs.

As for the IP issue, both sides agreed to enhance dialogue and cooperation in the area and to jointly promote IPR protection and application level based on mutual respect, mutual benefit and win-win, in order to accelerate the smooth development of the economic relations between the two countries. 

China and Japan have confirmed to continue to abide by the various principles of the Sino-Japanese Joint Statement, the Sino-Japanese Treaty of Peace and Friendship and the Sino-Japanese Joint Declaration.  They agreed to face history squarely and look to the future, in order to create a bright relation between the two countries in the future. With regard to the Taiwan issue, the Japanese side said that they will stick to the stand stated in the "Sino-Japanese Joint Statement".

Both governments reaffirmed that they will promote the process of the Six-Party Talks pursuant to the Joint Statement issued by the Six-Party Talks on September 19, 2005 and through dialogue and consultation, to devote their joint efforts to realizing a nuclear-free Korean Peninsula and to maintaining peace and stability in the northeastern region.  Both sides unanimously agree that the six nations shall make joint efforts to implement, in an all-round manner, the common documents concerning the action at the initial stage issued by the Six-Party Talks on February 13, 2007.  The Japanese party made explanations on the suspending cases including the kidnapping of the Japanese nationals by the Democratic People's Republic of Korea (DPRK) and the principles for the normalization of relation between Japan and the DPRK. The Chinese delegation expressed their understanding and sympathy for the humanitarian concern of the Japanese nationals, hoped this issue could be resolved in an early date, and China is willing to provide necessary assistance in the development of Japan-DPRK relations.
