E-commerce giant Alibaba said on Tuesday that 97 percent of complaints over intellectual property infringements on its platform could be solved within 24 hours under its increasing efforts in recent years against counterfeits.

"We've taken the initiative to protect IP rights by strictly fighting fake products online while receiving customers' complaints," said Zheng Junfang, Alibaba's chief platform governance officer. "The number of online products we voluntarily removed is 24 times more than our users' complaints."

She highlighted the importance of protecting IP rights, adding it is the enterprise's social responsibility, as well as respectful to customers.

She also said the company has made full use of advanced technologies, such as artificial intelligence and big data, to identify the authenticity of online shop owners and product information to prevent risks of fake goods.

Zhang Jingli, deputy director of the Economic Investigation Department under the Ministry of Public Security, said police officers across the country have caught more than 2,000 suspects and destroyed more than 2,000 workshops producing or selling counterfeits after receiving tips from the company over the past year.

In 2017, the enterprise established an alliance against fake goods online. So far, it has attracted 105 trademark owners who've joined the team.

"We'll continue upholding the strength to fight counterfeits through technologies to shoulder more responsibilities in IP protection," Zheng added.
