The 14th China (Wuxi) International Design Expo, themed “Better Design, Better Future”, will be held from Sept 21 to 24 at Wuxi Taihu International Expo Center, East China's Jiangsu province.

The five-day event consists of product exhibitions, design forums and a design competition, according to officials at a news conference on Sept 20.

More than 200 businesses, design institutes and organizations from home and abroad will take part in the expo and present over 10,000 products ranging from household appliances to traditional works of art.

The expo has been organized by the State Intellectual Property Office, the National Science and Technology Department, and Jiangsu Provincial Government, with the aim of showcasing the latest design products from around the world and creating a good business environment for the design industry in Wuxi.

Since the National Science and Technology Department announced Wuxi National Industrial Design Park to be the first one of its kind nationwide in 2003, the city has made great efforts to develop its design sector and make it a driving force in the transformation and upgrading of traditional industries.

At present, there are nearly 400 design-related businesses in the park, forming an industrial network of product design, integrated circuit design, traffic engineering design, architectural design, instrument design and creative cultural design.

The achievement comes from government investment and the efforts of design-related research institutes, such as Wuxi National Design Patent Information Center and Wuxi Research Institute of Applied Technologies affiliated to Tsinghua University.
