Cuba will soon launch a new drug against hemorrhoids obtained by DNA techniques, local media reported on Friday.
The recombined streptokinase suppositories, which are indicated for treating acute hemorrhoid attacks, will be ready for launch after going through clinical tests in several Cuban hospitals.
According to the Cuban press, researchers at the Center for Genetic Engineering and Biotechnology, who developed the drug, have already tested the drug's efficacy and safety.
The drug named Heberkinasa is already patented in Vietnam, China, Mexico, South Africa, Canada and South Korea, among other nations, the Cuban press said.
Obtained by DNA techniques, the drug can also be used for cases of acute myocardial infarction, deep vein thrombosis and pulmonary embolism.
